Liverpool have reportedly joined the race to sign Barcelona midfielder Marc Bernal as they consider reinforcing their midfield next summer. According to TEAMtalk, manager Andoni Iraola rates the young Spaniard highly and the club is monitoring his situation at Camp Nou. Several other European clubs, including Arsenal, Chelsea, Manchester United, Manchester City, Aston Villa, and Atlético Madrid, are also said to be tracking the deep-lying playmaker.
Despite the external interest, the report states that Bernal is happy developing under Hansi Flick and is close to signing a contract extension with Barcelona until 2031. His potential new deal is expected to feature a €500m (£420m) release clause. The 6ft 4in midfielder has operated primarily as a rotational option this season after helping Barcelona claim the La Liga title and Super Cup in the previous campaign.
