Martínez apologises to Manchester United’s director of football Wilcox after outburst

Manchester United defender Lisandro Martínez has issued an apology to director of football Jason Wilcox following talks with manager Michael Carrick and club executives. Martínez had publicly criticized the club's summer transfer recruitment after United's 2-0 Champions League defeat against Atlético Madrid on Tuesday. Although any formal disciplinary action will remain internal, Martínez is reportedly believed to have been fined.

The 28-year-old posted on Instagram acknowledging that his post-match frustration led him to speak out inappropriately. Following a summer transfer spend of £155m on midfielders Andrey Santos, Youri Tielemans, and Carlos Baleba, United have suffered a difficult start to the season with only six points from six league games.
