The Charlotte Hornets are fielding aggressive trade offers for guard LaMelo Ball, according to reports. While Ball reportedly prefers to stay, the Minnesota Timberwolves, Toronto Raptors, and Milwaukee Bucks have emerged as serious suitors, potentially forcing Charlotte’s hand this offseason.
According to ESPN’s Shams Charania, the Hornets are engaged in active discussions despite Ball’s strong connection to the team and a season where he earned All-NBA votes. The 24-year-old averaged 20.1 points and 7.1 assists over 72 games, leading Charlotte to the brink of its first playoff appearance in a decade. Still, the quality of incoming offers has reportedly made a trade a distinct possibility.
The Minnesota Timberwolves are considered a strong fit, with Marc Stein and Jake Fischer of The Stein Line confirming their interest. After trading Julius Randle, Minnesota has a clear need for a primary playmaker to pair with Anthony Edwards. Ball’s ability to run an offense would reduce Edwards’s usage rate and allow him to attack more freely off the ball, creating a balanced and formidable offensive duo.
The Toronto Raptors are also pursuing a lead guard to complement forward Scottie Barnes, who functions best alongside a high-level creator. Ball’s passing would immediately address a significant need for Toronto. The Milwaukee Bucks present a different scenario; following the Giannis Antetokounmpo trade, they could redirect assets acquired from Miami to obtain Ball, building their next chapter around a young playmaker rather than entering a full rebuild.
