After the Philadelphia Phillies were eliminated by the Atlanta Braves in the National League Wild Card Series, president of baseball operations Dave Dombrowski clarified the club’s plans for Bryce Harper heading into 2027.
The Philadelphia Phillies announced that Bryce Harper will return to full-time duty at first base for the 2027 season. President of baseball operations Dave Dombrowski confirmed the plan following discussions with Harper after the team's elimination by the Atlanta Braves in the National League Wild Card Series.
Harper may still make occasional starts in right field or as designated hitter to manage his workload. Additionally, Kyle Schwarber is expected to take spring training reps at first base to potentially cover roughly 30 games, allowing Harper structured rest days at designated hitter.
