Awaka brings a reputation as a high-motor big who crashes the glass. After transferring from Tennessee, he became a force for Arizona, averaging 9.3 points and 9.1 rebounds in his final season. He does his work in the paint and doesn’t stretch the floor, but his energy is undeniable. For a Bulls team looking for toughness, it’s a low-risk move with potential upside.
This is a classic rebuilding strategy. The front office is taking a flyer on a player who fits a need without committing significant salary cap space. Awaka will spend most of his time developing with the Windy City Bulls in the G League. The two-way deal allows him to be called up to the main roster for a limited number of games, giving him a direct path to prove he belongs.
He joins a rookie class headlined by No. 4 pick Caleb Wilson and No. 15 pick Dailyn Swain. While those players are expected to compete for rotation minutes immediately, Awaka’s job is simpler: dominate the G League.
