Mitch Johnson’s growth as a head coach is Spurs’ biggest secret weapon

Writer Cal Durrett argues that San Antonio Spurs head coach Mitch Johnson's potential tactical growth represents the team's biggest wildcard for the upcoming season. Despite guiding the Spurs to the NBA Finals in his first full season, Johnson faced criticism for late-game execution, crunch-time play-calling, and lineup management during playoff losses to the New York Knicks.

Durrett highlights that the Spurs added experienced assistant coach Billy Donovan to bolster the offense alongside returning defensive coordinator Sean Sweeney. The article asserts that San Antonio's title hopes rely heavily on Johnson optimizing a lineup featuring Victor Wembanyama, De'Aaron Fox, Stephon Castle, and Dylan Harper.
