The Dallas Cowboys‘ struggles have once again put quarterback Dak Prescott under the spotlight, but franchise legend Emmitt Smith believes that the quarterback is being held responsible for problems that are not under his control.
Dallas Cowboys legend Emmitt Smith defended quarterback Dak Prescott, arguing that the team's struggling defense is primarily responsible for their difficulties. Speaking to Variety, Smith highlighted that while the offense ranks seventh in the league by averaging 27.6 points per game, the defense surrenders 27.2 points per game. Smith insisted Prescott remains the team's best opportunity to win games.
Through five games, the Cowboys' defense ranks 31st in the NFL by allowing 395.4 yards per game and recording just five sacks. Meanwhile, Prescott has totaled 1,381 passing yards and nine touchdowns. In response to their defensive struggles, Dallas hired veteran coach Mike Pettine as a senior defensive assistant to help stabilize the unit.
