The Kansas City Royals have a budding star behind the plate, one who could outgrow their financial capabilities if they don't sign him to an extension soon.

Brian Burrows of Kings of Kauffman argues that the Kansas City Royals should secure catcher Carter Jensen with a long-term contract extension this offseason. The 23-year-old rookie posted a 3.7 fWAR and a 116 wRC+, establishing himself as one of the most productive rookie catchers since 2010.
Burrows notes that catching extensions carry risk, but suggests an eight-year, $86 million deal could keep the Kansas City native through his age-31 season and buy out three years of free agency before he becomes unaffordable.
