TSN's Darren Dreger reported on Insider Trading that a contract extension between forward Josh Anderson and the Montreal Canadiens is expected in the near future. General Manager Kent Hughes reportedly asked Anderson to remain patient prior to the season while the team focused on trade upgrades, but negotiations are now anticipated soon. Anderson, who has stated his desire to remain in Montreal, is currently in the final season of a seven-year deal carrying a $5.5 million cap hit.

Anderson has recorded four goals and two assists through seven games this season, skating alongside Alex Newhook and Chris Kreider. While Anderson's agent Darren Ferris typically prefers testing free agency, Montreal views the alternate captain as an important physical depth contributor and leader as the franchise enters its contention window.
