The deal was expected to be finalised before the Rugby League World Cup started.

A proposed partnership between the NRL and the Super League has failed to reach a finalized agreement after missing an expected deadline. ARL Commission chairman Peter V'landys and Super League officials were anticipated to conclude negotiations before the start of the Rugby League World Cup.
With the formal deadline now passed, the unresolved partnership leaves the long-term outlook and future direction of the UK competition hanging in the balance.
