The Phoenix Suns have officially waived veteran wing Haywood Highsmith along with camp invitees Kennedy Chandler and Phillip Wheeler. Phoenix is retaining Jamaree Bouyea on a non-guaranteed contract as the 14th man, leaving its 15th standard roster spot open heading into the regular season.
Waiving Highsmith on his non-guaranteed minimum contract reportedly saves the Suns an estimated $16 million in payroll and repeater luxury tax penalties. Phoenix also has until Monday to potentially convert Duop Reath's Exhibit 10 deal to a two-way contract.
