The Story in 60 Seconds

A Formula 1 fan has built a playable simulation of Rwanda's proposed Grand Prix circuit in the racing game Assetto Corsa. The track was recreated by modder Tyrone Hesbrook, known online as Nukedrop, just days after Formula 1 announced a ten-year deal to race in Africa. Using real elevation data and a single official preview render, Hesbrook matched the surrounding landscape to satellite imagery to produce the virtual layout.

The fan-made circuit measures 4.65 kilometers, whereas the official anti-clockwise layout being designed by WurzDesign and Tilke Engineering will span roughly 6 kilometers with 17 corners. Located in Bugesera, about 40 kilometers south of Kigali, the official venue features gradients up to 13 percent and is not expected to host its first race until the early 2030s.
