New Zealand begin a new era after the retirements of Devine, Bates and Tahuhu

Australia won the toss and elected to bowl against New Zealand in their T20I series opener at North Sydney Oval. Tahlia McGrath replaced the injured Phoebe Litchfield, who was ruled out of the fixture due to a low-grade hip muscle strain. The change was Australia's only adjustment to the playing XI that previously defeated England in the T20 World Cup final.
Captain Sophie Molineux and quick Lucy Hamilton both returned to the Australian lineup after recovering from injuries, with Megan Schutt missing out. New Zealand fielded a revamped, younger side led by captain Melie Kerr following the retirements of veteran players Sophie Devine, Suzie Bates, and Lea Tahuhu.
