The former Mets skipper's disappointing finish in Queens did not keep him out of the running for another managerial gig.

Former New York Mets manager Carlos Mendoza withdrew from consideration for the Seattle Mariners' vacant managerial job to join the Philadelphia Phillies as their third base and infield coach. Mendoza was dismissed by the Mets midseason following a 34-47 start, concluding a tenure where he compiled a 206-199 record over two-and-a-half seasons in Queens.
Mendoza joins manager Don Mattingly's revamped coaching staff in Philadelphia following the departure of infield coach Bobby Dickerson. His primary responsibilities will include improving a defense that ranked seventh-worst in MLB, specifically working with shortstop Trea Turner following Turner's difficult defensive campaign.
