  • Detroit Bad Boys argues Detroit is well positioned to outperform expectations behind Cade Cunningham, Jalen Duren, and Ausar Thompson.
The Story in 60 Seconds

Despite winning 60 games and topping the Eastern Conference last season, the Detroit Pistons are widely projected by NBA general managers and Las Vegas oddsmakers to regress significantly. The latest annual NBA GM survey projects Detroit to drop to fifth place, while sportsbooks have set their projected win total at 47.5, representing a steep 12.5-game drop. Star guard Cade Cunningham acknowledged the widespread skepticism, telling the Detroit Free Press that the team still feels overlooked.

Sean Corp of Detroit Bad Boys argues that Detroit's projected fall is unwarranted because the roster's young core of Cunningham, Jalen Duren, and Ausar Thompson continues to improve. Detroit also re-tooled its supporting cast by adding John Collins and Isaiah Joe while retaining Paul Reed, effectively upgrading team shooting and floor spacing following the departures of Tobias Harris and Isaiah Stewart ahead of their season opener against Boston.
