How losing Angelo Stiller and Kenan Yildiz changed Bayern Munich’s approach to young players

Bayern Munich youth director Jochen Sauer explained that losing Angelo Stiller and Kenan Yildiz fundamentally altered how the club manages youth pathways. Stiller left Bayern on a free transfer for Hoffenheim in 2021 before excelling at Stuttgart, while Yildiz joined Juventus without a fee in 2022. Sauer noted that their rapid success proved Bayern's U-19 talents could thrive internationally, prompting the club to prioritize the bridge between the academy and the first team.

Sauer cited FC Barcelona as an ideal developmental model and credited head coach Vincent Kompany with fostering a new dynamic. Bayern previously could not offer Yildiz first-team training opportunities alongside peers like Paul Wanner, Arijon Ibrahimović, and Mathys Tel. However, Sauer highlighted Kompany's willingness to integrate youth prospects into senior action, referencing his past developmental work with Joshua Zirkzee at Anderlecht.
