As part of a planned Germany squad reshuffle, captain Joshua Kimmich was sent home following the defeat to Greece. Jürgen Klopp revealed that the Bayern midfielder asked to stay, but the Germany coach stood by his decision.

Germany manager Jürgen Klopp revealed that captain Joshua Kimmich repeatedly asked to stay with the national team squad instead of being sent home during an international break reshuffle. Despite Kimmich's requests following a 1-0 defeat to Greece, Klopp stood by his plan to rotate players and instructed the Bayern Munich midfielder to take time off.
Klopp originally called up 44 players divided into two groups across four fixtures. Although Kimmich faced public criticism for his display against Greece, Klopp defended his captain's performance and emphasized that the squad rotation was strictly intended to test depth and evaluate other players.
