Birmingham City could land cash boost if Man City are relegated after bombshell verdict

Finance expert Kieran Maguire suggests Birmingham City and other EFL clubs could receive a financial windfall if Manchester City are relegated following financial breaches. An independent commission recently found Manchester City breached financial regulations between 2009 and 2018 using sham contracts. Although City deny wrongdoing and plan to appeal, potential punishments could see the club dropped into the English Football League system.

Maguire noted that Manchester City's presence in the EFL could significantly boost future broadcasting negotiations, benefiting member clubs. Championship sides currently earn nearly £6 million annually from the EFL's £935 million deal with Sky Sports, which expires in 2029. Maguire believes the Premier League aims to resolve the matter this season to avoid potential relegation complications.
