The Championship side are looking to bring the 56-year-old former Manchester United chief back to England, though they would reportedly need to pay compensation to secure his services.

Murtough joined Atalanta in April 2025 after spending over a decade at Manchester United in various executive capacities. Birmingham City have been searching for a replacement since parting ways with Craig Gardner in the summer, with the club currently sitting 10th in the Championship table under head coach Chris Davies.
