The Story in 60 Seconds

Laura Owen, a 36-year-old Birmingham City supporter and mother of two, has been diagnosed with an incurable, fast-growing brain tumor after initially mistaking her symptoms for stress and migraines. Following an emergency hospital visit in June, doctors discovered a grade four astrocytoma IDH mutant. Surgeons were able to remove much of the aggressive tumor, but portions remain because complete removal carried significant risks of brain damage.

After Owen completed six weeks of radiotherapy and chemotherapy, her husband Rob launched a GoFundMe campaign to fund private oncothermia treatments in London. The specialized therapy is not available on the NHS and aims to delay the tumor's return. The fundraiser has targeted £50,000 to cover the care, already generating over £30,000 in support within just a few days.
