Wrexham have big ambitions, but eyebrows were raised when they set their sights on a move for Pavel Sulc in the summer.

Lyon attacking midfielder Pavel Sulc has confirmed that Championship club Wrexham AFC pursued him over the summer with a proposed £35m permanent transfer. The 25-year-old Czechia international revealed that Wrexham offered the most money among interested clubs, discussing a deal worth approximately one billion Czech koruna. However, Sulc rejected the prospective move, citing a reluctance to play in the Championship or live in Wales.
Sulc stated that while Wrexham is a famous club with a unique story, moving there would not suit his career ambitions. The proposed £35m fee would have set a record transfer fee paid by a Championship club, but Lyon deemed incoming bids insufficient to sell him. Sulc joined Lyon from Viktoria Plzen and previously competed in Ligue 1 and the UEFA Europa League.
