Former club offer ex-Portsmouth title-winner a precious career lifeline

Former Portsmouth defender Tom McIntyre has been invited to train with his boyhood club Reading to maintain fitness while searching for a new team as a free agent. Reading manager Leam Richardson approved the 27-year-old center-back to work with the under-21 squad after McIntyre became a free agent following a short-term spell at Aberdeen.

McIntyre previously made 117 appearances for Reading before moving to Portsmouth for £50,000 in January 2024. After suffering an ankle injury on his Portsmouth debut and later leaving by mutual consent in January 2026, he underwent unsuccessful summer trials at Wigan and Blackpool.
