Huge former Portsmouth favourite’s struggles continue after disastrous League One start

Former Portsmouth striker Christian Saydee continues to struggle following his 2025 departure from Fratton Park to Wigan Athletic. The 24-year-old forward has gone without a goal in over 12 months, having failed to score in 34 consecutive league appearances. A thigh injury sustained during a pre-season match against Manchester City has also kept him sidelined for more than two and a half months.

Saydee joined Wigan on a three-year contract for an undisclosed fee after being allowed to leave by Portsmouth manager John Mousinho. Although the striker has resumed running outdoors, Latics head coach Gary Caldwell confirmed there is no established timetable for his return to competitive action after missing Wigan's opening 10 matches.
