Preston North End saw another managerial target pull of of the race not long before Graham Alexander was handed the role.

Robbie Keane withdrew from Preston North End's managerial race just 24 hours before Graham Alexander was appointed, according to reporter Alan Nixon. Preston had been searching for a new head coach following the sacking of Paul Heckingbottom. Keane was reportedly considered the favorite for the vacancy at Deepdale before making the late decision to pull out of contention.
While Keane's specific reasons for withdrawing remain unknown, Nixon indicated that the former Ferencvaros manager may be close to joining another club. Keane is reportedly drawing interest from Italy and another Championship side. Preston ultimately finalized the appointment of Alexander from Bradford City, with the former PNE player taking charge after a successful run with the Bantams.
