Sheffield United lost several key players over the summer, one of which was Gus Hamer who has not kicked on since rejoining Coventry City.

Writer Charlie Hodgson argues that Sheffield United made the right decision by selling midfielder Gus Hamer to Coventry City for a reported £6m fee. The 29-year-old departed Bramall Lane in August with only one year remaining on his contract, avoiding the risk of the club losing him for nothing after a 13th-place Championship finish.
Hamer has since struggled for regular game time under Frank Lampard, making only five substitute appearances across 48 minutes without registering a goal or assist. However, Hodgson notes that Sheffield United's failure to adequately reinvest around £20m in summer sales has left the Blades' attack struggling.
