Former Southampton defender Jannik Vestergaard has announced his retirement from professional football, admitting his motivation disappeared.
Former Southampton and Leicester City defender Jannik Vestergaard has announced his retirement from professional football at the age of 34. The Danish center-back, who had been a free agent since departing Leicester City by mutual consent in the summer, confirmed his decision in an interview with Danish outlet Politiken, citing a lack of motivation.
Vestergaard represented Denmark 59 times, scoring three goals across his international career. After joining Southampton from Borussia Monchengladbach in 2018, he made 79 appearances before moving to Leicester City in August 2021 for £15 million, where he played 118 matches and won the 2023/24 Championship title.
