West Ham United and England legend Sir Geoff Hurst has been awarded the Freedom of the City of London during a ceremony at London's Guildhall. The honour was presented in recognition of his outstanding sporting achievements, following nominations by Lady Mayor Dame Susan Langley and City of London Corporation policy chairman Chris Hayward. Former West Ham captain Mark Noble also attended the event.
Hurst spent 14 years playing for West Ham between 1958 and 1972, scoring 249 goals in 503 appearances. During his tenure, he helped the club win the FA Cup in 1964 and the European Cup Winners' Cup in 1965, before famously scoring a hat-trick for England in the 1966 World Cup final.
