Canada beat Peru 2-0 in a soccer friendly that won't last long in the memory on Saturday, but the pre-game antics certainly will after popstar Alessia Cara instantly went viral on social media.

Grammy Award-winning singer Alessia Cara faced heavy criticism after botching the Canadian national anthem prior to a men's international soccer friendly in Montreal on Saturday. Cara appeared to forget the lyrics to 'O Canada,' sang out of tune, and giggled into the microphone, prompting the stadium sound crew to switch to an instrumental version as spectators audibly booed.
On the pitch, Jesse Marsch's Canada side went on to defeat Peru 2-0, with Jacob Shaffelburg scoring both goals. The pre-match incident quickly went viral on social media, drawing widespread criticism as well as defense from some fans who cited performance anxiety.
