Tennis balls were thrown onto the Aviva Stadium pitch on Thursday night but a decent game of football broke out too

Republic of Ireland players and supporters maintained unity on the pitch despite intense protests and political controversy surrounding recent fixtures involving Israel. Following a 3-0 victory against Israel in Debrecen, Ireland drew 2-2 with Austria at Aviva Stadium amid isolated demonstrations, including thrown tennis balls and a pitch invader carrying a Palestine flag. Troy Parrott scored two goals before Austria mounted a second-half comeback.
The match occurred alongside ongoing scrutiny of the Football Association of Ireland, whose officials were questioned in the Irish parliament regarding squad voting on fulfilling the Israel match. Back-up goalkeeper Gavin Bazunu had made himself unavailable for the previous game following family discussions. Meanwhile, FAI leaders acknowledged that the fixture would have proceeded regardless of player sentiment.
