João Félix strike for Portugal enough to sink Wales but Ronaldo fever falls flat

Portugal opened their Nations League campaign with a 1-0 victory over Wales at the José Alvalade Stadium in Lisbon. Forward João Félix scored the decisive goal in the first half with a deflected strike from the edge of the penalty box, beating Wales goalkeeper Danny Ward.

Cristiano Ronaldo started the match under manager Jorge Jesus but had a goal disallowed for offside and missed key chances before being substituted in the 67th minute. Wales nearly equalized late through Brennan Johnson, who hit the crossbar, and Lewis Koumas, whose effort was stopped by Rúben Dias.
