Barcelona’s squad-cost limit is delaying the Lamine Yamal salary increase, though the club still plans to honour the agreed improvement in 2027.

Barcelona has delayed the implementation of an agreed salary increase for winger Lamine Yamal due to strict squad-cost limits, according to MARCA. The pay rise was previously agreed upon during his May 2025 contract renewal, which runs through June 2031. However, the club must postpone putting the new terms into effect for several months because they are operating near their €582 million wage cap.
Barcelona's current squad costs stand at approximately €581 million, leaving insufficient financial flexibility to register the raise immediately. Yamal is already the club's highest earner, with total compensation potentially exceeding €20 million net including bonuses. Barcelona fully intends to honor the agreement later, prioritizing other pressing renewals such as those for Marc Bernal and Raphinha first.
