When will Lionel Messi get his Barcelona farewell?

Following Lionel Messi's international farewell match for Argentina against Benin, writer Luis Mazariegos examines when FC Barcelona might host a proper tribute match for their former talisman. Messi abruptly departed the Catalan club in August 2021 amid financial constraints, leaving without an on-pitch send-off before moving to Paris Saint-Germain and subsequently Inter Miami.

Mazariegos argues that lingering tension between Messi's camp and club president Joan Laporta must be resolved to stage an event. The writer notes that logistics depend on stadium construction, suggesting a tribute could potentially occur in early 2028 when Camp Nou's renovations and roof installation are fully completed.
