Key Things to Know
  • Former Real Madrid defender Dani Carvajal has signed a one-year deal with Getafe.
  • The move is a free transfer following the expiration of Carvajal's contract with Real Madrid.
  • LaLiga financial fair play rules initially delayed the transfer over a minimum wage valuation of approximately £2.2 million.
The Story in 60 Seconds

Former Real Madrid defender Dani Carvajal has signed with Getafe on a free transfer after overcoming regulatory issues that initially threatened the deal. The 34-year-old right-back agreed to a one-year contract running through June 30, 2027, ending his status as a free agent following his departure from Real Madrid in June.

The transfer was delayed after Carvajal passed his medical due to LaLiga's salary cap rules. An independent league committee determined his minimum acceptable wage to be approximately £2.2 million, which Getafe eventually adjusted their budget to satisfy. Reports also indicate the deal includes an exit clause permitting Carvajal to leave in January if another offer emerges.
