A masterstroke from Xabi Alonso helped Chelsea thrash Bournemouth 5-1 over the weekend

Jake Stokes reports that Chelsea manager Xabi Alonso resolved recent transitional defensive vulnerabilities by tweaking his tactical setup against Bournemouth. While starting on paper in a back three, Chelsea frequently morphed into a four-man defense with Josh Acheampong shifting out to right-back. This adjustment allowed Pedro Neto to push higher up the pitch while Colwill and Lacroix stayed compact inside.
According to Stokes, the tactical variation gave Chelsea greater control and stability alongside a double pivot of Moises Caicedo and Jordan Henderson. Alonso praised the team's balance following the 4-1 victory, highlighting the midfield presence and defensive recovery across the squad.
