The extent of Chelsea goalkeeper Emi Martinez's injury has been confirmed after a sickening clash of heads away at Everton.

Chelsea goalkeeper Emi Martinez was kept in a Liverpool hospital overnight after suffering a jawbone injury and concussion during a 2-0 win over Everton. The 34-year-old collided with Everton defender Jarrad Branthwaite, causing a nine-minute stoppage before he was stretchered off receiving oxygen. Debutant Mike Penders replaced him in goal.
According to Argentine journalist Gaston Edul, scans on Martinez's head, neck, and back returned clear, though he sustained a bone injury in his jaw. Manager Xabi Alonso confirmed Martinez left the ground conscious. Pedro Neto scored twice in the victory as Chelsea ended Everton's unbeaten start.
