The Premier League season so far: The biggest surprises, letdowns and who should be most worried?

Seven writers have assessed the opening five matches of the 2026-27 Premier League campaign, focusing on the performances of several newly appointed managers across the division. The panel highlighted the strong starts of Manchester City manager Enzo Maresca and Hull City manager Sergej Jakirovic, following a period of significant managerial turnover and record summer transfer spending.

Maresca guided Manchester City to the top of the league with five consecutive victories after succeeding Pep Guardiola. Meanwhile, Jakirovic earned the Premier League Manager of the Month award for August after leading Hull City to an opening weekend victory against Manchester United before suffering a defeat to Newcastle United.
