Jean-Philippe Gbamin cost Everton £25million but had his contract cancelled a year early after just eight appearances

Former Everton midfielder Jean-Philippe Gbamin is currently playing as a central defender for Bulgarian club CSKA Sofia after signing a two-year contract in July 2026. Gbamin, who joined Everton for £25 million in 2019, managed just eight total appearances across an injury-plagued four-year tenure before the club terminated his contract by mutual consent in September 2023.
Following his Everton departure and earlier loan spells with CSKA Moscow and Trabzonspor, the Ivory Coast international experienced brief stints at Dunkerque, Nantes, FC Zurich, and Metz. Gbamin has made 18 appearances for CSKA Sofia this season but missed out on selection for Ivory Coast's 2026 World Cup squad.
