Ipswich Town's Under-18s suffered a 6-2 defeat against Crystal Palace at Playford Road, despite a brace from summer signing Chris Atherton. Palace established an early 5-1 lead in the first half through a Donte Martin hat-trick and goals from Remi Ahazie-Shittu and Hugo Bull, before Makai Bernard-Ferguson added a sixth after the break for the visitors.
Despite the loss, the academy celebrated schoolboy forward Tommy McLoughlin's call-up to the England squad for the upcoming FIFA youth tournament in Azerbaijan. Additionally, Folkestone Invicta forward Freddie Francis made his second consecutive start for Mark Robinson's side while undergoing a two-week trial.
