Paul Gorst assesses Florian Wirtz's Liverpool situation after the Reds are beaten 3-0 by Manchester City at Anfield

Paul Gorst argues that Florian Wirtz's underwhelming performance for Liverpool in a 3-0 defeat against Manchester City raised major concerns, particularly compared to Rayan Cherki's standout display. With Liverpool missing key attacking options due to injuries, Wirtz struggled to make an impact and lost possession 16 times during the first half before being substituted following Ryan Gravenberch's red card.
Gorst highlights that Cherki, whom Liverpool previously targeted as a backup plan before his £35m move to City, outshone the £116m German playmaker at Anfield. Sky Sports pundit Jamie Carragher also criticized Wirtz after the match, stating that the midfielder currently provides no goal threat and should not be starting for Liverpool.
