Key Things to Know
  • Andoni Iraola has demanded Liverpool sacrifice match control to create higher-quality scoring chances.
  • Liverpool failed to register a shot on target in their recent 1-0 home defeat to Arsenal.
  • The manager suggested Liverpool can be "too honest" following rejected penalty appeals involving Alexander Isak.
The Story in 60 Seconds

Liverpool manager Andoni Iraola has called on his side to sacrifice match control and take more risks to resolve their goalscoring struggles. Speaking ahead of Sunday's match against Crystal Palace, Iraola urged his team to commit more players into the penalty box. Liverpool have created the second-fewest big chances in the Premier League this season and failed to record a shot on target against Arsenal.

Iraola noted that Liverpool reach the final third frequently but lack quality in their final chances. He also suggested the team may be "too honest" after not being awarded a penalty for Jurrien Timber's shirt pull on Alexander Isak. Despite the team's wider issues in front of goal, Isak has scored six league goals this season.
