Liverpool beat Chelsea to the signing of Jeremy Jacquet and the defender is thriving at Anfield. Things could have been very different…

Liverpool's decision to sign French defender Jeremy Jacquet in a £60m summer deal from Rennes has quickly paid off with impressive early performances. The 21-year-old has established himself as a regular starter in both the Premier League and Champions League following Ibrahima Konate's move to Real Madrid, helping Liverpool record four clean sheets so far this season.
BBC Sport's Aadam Patel reports that Jacquet chose Liverpool over Chelsea, overcoming previous shoulder and knee injuries to quickly cement his place in the lineup. His stellar form has also earned him a senior France national team debut under manager Zinedine Zidane.
