The Story in 60 Seconds

Former Liverpool midfielder Dietmar Hamann claims the club has badly overspent on squad signings and will fail to secure a Premier League top-four finish this season. Speaking on behalf of the Liverpool Echo, Hamann argued that manager Andoni Iraola faces intense competition from rivals such as Manchester City, Arsenal, and Chelsea, noting Liverpool's poor start of two wins from their opening six league fixtures.

Hamann specifically criticized the club's big-money additions, including Alexander Isak, Florian Wirtz, and recent £123 million signing Bradley Barcola. He stated that outside of Hugo Ekitike prior to injury, the expensive arrivals have underperformed, predicting that Liverpool will look to sell Wirtz at the end of the season.
