Former Manchester City striker Imre Varadi says it was "brilliant to see" the club's fans waving inflatable bananas at Anfield and feels it "brought a lot of fun back".

Former Manchester City striker Imre Varadi praised supporters for waving inflatable bananas during Sunday's 3-0 win against Liverpool at Anfield, stating the gesture brought fun back to football. Varadi, who inspired the craze during the late 1980s under the nickname 'Imre Banana,' noted that seeing the tradition revived after roughly 40 years was an amazing sight and a joy to watch.
The inflatable bananas returned during City's first match since being found guilty of 114 Premier League financial rule breaches from 2009-10 to 2017-18. With the club facing potential sanctions including points deductions or expulsion, fans used the bananas as a nod to their era as an unpredictable club in the Second Division.
