Former Manchester United defender Chris Smalling is expected to miss about one month after suffering a right knee injury on his competitive debut for FC Porto. Smalling started in Porto's 1-0 League Cup quarter-final win over Académico de Viseu on Wednesday. He was substituted in the 54th minute following a challenge where striker Mohamed Bouldini fell into his right knee.
Porto confirmed that Smalling sustained an injury to his right medial collateral ligament. The 36-year-old defender joined Porto as a free agent on September 30, 2026, on a contract running through June 2027. He began treatment on Thursday, with the club targeting a return to action late in November.
