Jason Wilcox faces scrutiny as Martínez row exposes United depth

Manchester United's recruitment and squad depth face scrutiny after defender Lisandro Martínez publicly criticized technical director Jason Wilcox following a 2-0 Champions League defeat against Atlético Madrid. Senior players reportedly share concerns over squad depth after United spent £155m solely on midfielders Youri Tielemans, Andrey Santos, and Carlos Baleba. Although at least one teammate challenged Martínez's public comments, dressing-room opinion broadly aligns with his criticism.

Martínez, whose contract expires next summer, may face internal disciplinary action after standing by his remarks in a subsequent statement. Manager Michael Carrick faces pressure amid United's worst league start in 40 years, with squad concerns exacerbated by 31-year-old Luke Shaw serving as the squad's only senior left-back.
