Manchester United’s European history is packed with memorable battles against the continent’s biggest clubs, but meetings with Atlético

Manchester United have never defeated Atlético Madrid in competitive European competition, recording two draws and two losses across four matches. The sides first met in the 1991-92 European Cup Winners' Cup second round, where Luis Aragonés's Atlético won 3-0 in Madrid before drawing 1-1 at Old Trafford, ending Alex Ferguson's side's title defense 4-1 on aggregate.
The clubs met again in the 2021-22 UEFA Champions League round of 16. Following a 1-1 draw in Madrid featuring goals from João Félix and Anthony Elanga, Diego Simeone's side secured a 1-0 victory at Old Trafford via a Renan Lodi header, eliminating interim manager Ralf Rangnick's team.
