Man Utd are continuing to slash their wage bill but those savings are being eaten up by debt repayments.

Manchester United reduced their wage bill to £303 million in the 2025/26 season, down from a peak of £384.1 million in 2021/22. Staff salaries now represent only 45% of the club's record £677.6 million revenue. Ineos and chief executive Omar Berrada are targeting continued fiscal discipline across the squad, despite wage reductions potentially altering with recent Champions League salary increases.
While salary expenditures continue to decline, Manchester United's overall debt climbed to nearly £690 million in the latest financial accounts. This increase stems partly from refinancing bonds to acquire land near the stadium. The club also faced an annual interest repayment of £69.6 million, diverting substantial financial resources away from playing squad investments.
