Rooney does not share the same view as some of his former Manchester United team-mates
Wayne Rooney has stated that he would not feel comfortable accepting the 2011-12 Premier League medal if Manchester City are retrospectively stripped of their title. Speaking on the Stick To United podcast, the former Manchester United striker disagreed with ex-teammate Rio Ferdinand, who previously argued that players should receive the medal if titles are revoked following financial rule breach rulings.
Manchester City were reportedly found guilty of nearly all 115 alleged financial breaches covering a nine-year period from 2009-10 to 2017-18, leaving potential sanctions including title stripping on the table. However, Rooney insisted that Manchester United threw away a lead late in the season and therefore did not deserve to claim the 2012 crown retrospectively.
