Michael Carrick to stay in charge of Manchester United for Roma game

Michael Carrick is set to remain in charge of Manchester United for Tuesday's Champions League match against Roma at Old Trafford. Despite a 2-0 defeat to Chelsea that leaves United 17th in the Premier League, club leaders Jason Wilcox and Omar Berrada decided to give the 45-year-old manager an opportunity to reverse the team's nine-game winless run.

United hierarchy will reportedly review Carrick's future during the upcoming international break following Sunday's Premier League fixture against Aston Villa. If a change occurs, director of football Wilcox reportedly prefers Eddie Howe, who would cost approximately £3m in compensation, while director of recruitment Christopher Vivell has sounded out Julian Nagelsmann.
