Newcastle chiefs believe they have pulled off a big transfer coup

Newcastle United agreed a five-year professional contract with 17-year-old winger Kyran Thompson following his move from Arsenal. James Beavis of GiveMeSport suggests that Thompson could emerge as a long-term replacement for veteran Jacob Murphy, who faces fan scrutiny after failing to record a goal or assist in seven appearances this season under manager Matthias Jaissle.
Academy director Steve Harper described Thompson as an exciting talent with real potential, and the teenager was recently selected in the Guardian's Next Generation 2026 list. Thompson has already recorded a goal and an assist in two appearances for Newcastle's Under-21 squad and cited the pathway to first-team training as a key motivation for joining.
